Eugene Daniel Roarty
My loving husband, Gene, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13th at home after just turning 59. Diagnosed in September, he courageously fought pancreatic cancer, never complaining of the treatments or the complications along the way.
Born Feb. 8, 1959, in Kingston, PA, Gene was the son of Helen and the late John Roarty. He attended Christiana High School and played on the football team. He was a volunteer firefighter with Christiana Fire Company.
Upon graduating from Christiana High School, Gene worked at various positions within the commercial truck industry. Most recently, he worked at Intercon Truck Equipment as their Operations Manager, which he really enjoyed due to their people and reconnecting with his longtime friends.
Gene was a family man. He was so proud of his daughters Melinda and Jessica. He was an avid runner and loved running 5K’s with them. He totally enjoyed their visits home where everyone was treated to Dad’s cooking. He also loved spending time at his mom’s house with his brothers and sisters. He loved his mom a lot.
Everyone that knew Gene loved his outgoing personality, knew of his strong work ethic and his willingness to help. He will be missed tremendously by everyone.
Gene is survived by his wife, Dori, his daughters Melinda (Baltimore, MD) and Jessica (Philadelphia, PA), his brothers Kevin and Brian (Francine), and his sisters, Louise (Kim), Helen (Rich) and Beth. He is predeceased by his brother, John.
Our family would like to thank Fox Chase Cancer Center and the ED at Christiana Hospital for their compassionate care.
A viewing will take place at Doherty Funeral Homes, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington on Thursday evening, Feb. 22 from 5-7 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at the same location on Friday morning, Feb. 23 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be sent to Christiana Fire Company, Station 12, in memory of Gene. Addresses are on the website christianafc.org.
