Ms. Rutkowski Boom,
I realize this is late but I did not realize your husband had passed away. I had him as a teacher when I was in tenth grade 43 (!!) years ago, and he made it so fun! I also remember how much you helped me in my senior year, and I will never forget you for all you did for me. I have been clean and sober for 33 years this August. I am very sorry for your loss. Feel free to friend me on FB if you wish. Love and condolences, Chris Sorber Fennessy

I want to pass on my condolences to your family and express my gratitude to your father for the skills that he taught us in his English class at Concord High School. I graduated in 1976 and to this day I use the exact theme paper format that he taught us; opening statement, supporting paragraphs, summary and conclusion.
This format served me very well in college and in my professional career has enabled me to successfully articulate my thoughts and ideas to customers and vendors. I owe him a debt of gratitude for his patience and valiant efforts teaching an unruly mob of teenagers like us. We did not make it easy and will be eternally grateful for his efforts and want you to know that his investment in us is still paying dividends.

I remember Gary well from Concord H.S. (1969-72) He was never my teacher, but nonetheless I got to know him pretty well, and I liked him very much. His sense of humor and his joy in what he was doing was infectious. I will always remember him fondly.

Virginia,

Thank you for your very kind words about Gary. I was a teacher at Concord, too.

I am having a party (not a service, not a memorial) for him on June 18th at the Delaware Association of Police on Lancaster Avenue in Wilmington from 12 - 4 p.m.

There will be food, wine, beer, coffee and soft drinks and a DJ, which is what Gary wanted.

I would like to ask a favor. I've been having difficulty getting in touch with former students so if you are still in contact with any of your classmates or any other Concord people, could you please pass on the party info to them.

I know it's short notice, but I need a head count by Wednesday so I can tell the caterer and DAP.

I know that Gary would be happy to see former students, whejher he taught them or not.

Hope you can come!

Sandra

Jim,

Thank you for the candle and kind remarks about Gary. I was an English teacher at Concord, too, and remember you well. I am planning a party for him on June 18th at the Delaware Association of Police on Lancaster Avenue here in Wilmington. It is a party - not a service or memorial - come at any time between 12 - 4 p.m. There will be food, beer, wine, coffee and soft drinks and a DJ, too. That's what he wanted.

I would like a favor. I'm having trouble tracking down his former students. So many are out of the area or do not have land lines..If you are still in contact with any of your classmates or people you knew from Concord, could you please let them know that they are invited, too. I know that this is short notice, but I need to have a "guesstimate" by Wednesday to let the caterer and the DAP know the number to expect.

Whatever you can do will be appreciated!
