Richard L. Fersch, 86, of Wilmington, Delaware peacefully passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Born in Wilmington on December 23, 1936, he was the son of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Boc) Fersch.
Richard was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served with the Army Security Agency with top secret security clearance. He was a talented repairman and worked as a repair technician, primarily for restaurant equipment. A past member of St. Hedwig Parish, Richard enjoyed his time coaching youth league football and baseball. He was also an assistant Boy Scout leader and was affectionately nicknamed “Big Daddy”.
His wife, Eileen (Trainor) Fersch, passed away in 1985. In addition, he was predeceased by his brothers, John “Skip” and George Fersch.
Richard is survived by his sons, Kevin Fersch (Holly), Eric Fersch and wife, Jeanine; his grandchildren, Kyle, Jared and wife, Tiffany, Jacob and Samantha Fersch; his great grandchildren, Lorelai and Gannon Fersch; his brother, Robert Fersch (Bonnie); his sister, Diana Hamilton; his daughter-in-law, Marjorie Fersch; his sisters-in-law, Mary Fersch and Joan Fersch.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, September 29 from 10:00 - 11:00AM. A Catholic funeral service will begin at 11:00AM, immediately followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery.
