Our hearts are completely broken to announce the passing of Nicole Marie DeAngelo on October 4, 2018. Nicky was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, best friend and Catholic spiritual guide.
She always lived with her Catholic faith which she practiced daily at St. Hedwig Church for the past 32 years. Nicky was a Lector, CCD Teacher and Co-Founder of Our Lady Queen of Peace Prayer Group. She would be pleased to know that this group will continue each Thursday after 6:30pm Mass.
Nicky was Co-Founder of Hedgeville Community Children’s Garden, the neighborhood she lived in for the past 32 years at Jackson and Elm St., where she mentored dozens of local children that still visit her to this day. Professionally, Nicky was a hair stylist for over 40 years, most recently at Currie Hair, Skin and Nails for 35 years where she made many amazing friends who lifted her up even when she became disabled 2 years ago.
Nicky leaves behind her husband of 33 ½ years, Tom; daughter, Danielle (Dave); grandson, Caleb; son, Jeffrey; brothers, Jimmy Schuh (Ann), Steven Schuh, Patrick Schuh (Kristina); sister, Annette Hamilton (David); and 5 nephews and nieces. Nicky was preceded in death by her parents, Huguette and Carl Schuh.
Our family would like to thank the most wonderful medical professionals who took care of her especially Drs. Khatri and Suppiah and their staff. The nurses and doctors of Christiana Hospital Cancer Unit 6E and the Christiana visiting nurses. Compassionate Care Hospital for bending over backwards making sure Nicky was comfortable. We also thank the many close friends who stood with Nicky through her affliction, visited, brought gifts, flowers, foods and prepared meals, spending their time with her that lifted her and her husband’s spirits.
Her son, Jeffrey, ‘how his mom provided shelter for a homeless man one cold night and through the years, with the children coming to the front porch for “Mrs. Nicky” to say a prayer or walk over to the garden with. She was an Angel. My mom taught me compassion, patience, love and forgiveness. Her daughter, Danielle, ‘we wanted you here with us, but God needed you more.’
Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 5pm – 7pm at St. Hedwig Church, 408 S Harrison St., Wilmington, DE 19805. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 on the following day, October 11, at St. Hedwig Church, the recitation of the Rosary will precede the Mass. Interment will follow at Saint Joseph on the Brandywine.
We request at this time, no gifts or flowers and that if anyone would choose to make a donation, make it to St. Hedwig Church, where it will be used to carry on the 32 years of love that Nicky left them.
