Anna Zaryckyj passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021 at the age of 97, at Christiana
Care - Wilmington Hospital. Anna was born on March 14, 1923 in Kosmach, Ukraine.
Anna was taken into forced labor during World War II to Germany at a tender age of 17 to work in the German factory and on a farm. After the war she immigrated to the United States and settled in Philadelphia, Pa. In 1960 she married Petro Zaryckyj and moved to Wilmington, DE. She was a long time member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and very active in the Ukrainian Community. She was also a member of Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, and Apostleship of Prayer. Her passion was for anything Ukrainian. She embroidered, made beautiful ceramics artifacts, painted easter eggs (pysanky). She had a talent to look at something and with her mind created it before doing anything. She was a kind and gentle woman and she was loved by many.
Anna is survived by her daughter, Maria Hawrysczuk; her sister, Maria Doviriak, and her family; and Nephews and Niece (Ruslan, Andrij and Maria Zherebukh) in Ukraine. She is predeceased by her husband Petro; her parents; and sister, Paraska.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 4 from 9-10 am, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10am at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 800 Lea Blvd, Wilmington, DE 19802. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, at the address listed above.
