Bohdan Sobkiw, 74, of Carneys Point, New Jersey, peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home with family at his side on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Born in Germany on September 13, 1949, he was one of three sons of the late Wolodymyr and Julia (Szemegda) Sobkiw.
Bohdan proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps, having achieved the rank of sergeant. He attended Temple University and began his career as a computer ware engineer with the Department of Defense at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. Following his service with the D.O.D., he became employed with Lockheed-Martin and lastly with Booz Allen Hamilton in conjunction with the United States Coast Guard.
Bohdan was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and was extremely proud of his Ukrainian heritage. He had an interest in ships and enjoyed time at his beach house in Lewes, where he loved boating and all water activities. Family was the center of his life, especially his beloved grandchildren.
Bohdan will be dearly missed by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Petrowsky) Sobkiw; his children, Christine Sobkiw Lindenmuth, Bohdan Sobkiw Jr. and wife, Ashley; his grandchildren, Britnee Schomber, Julianna Lindenmuth, Angelina Lindenmuth and Isabella Lindenmuth; his great grandson, Jaxon Alexander. In addition, he is survived by his brothers, Orest Sobkiw and wife Linda, Walter Sobkiw and wife, Claudia; his sister-in-law, Lillian Reinhard; his brother-in-law, Raymond Petrowsky and wife, Leeann.
Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 800 W. Lea Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19802 on Wednesday, June 5 from 10:00 – 10:45AM. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00AM, immediately followed by entombment in Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bohdan may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church.
