Catherine “Kitty” (Cusack) Piendak, 90, returned to the arms of her creator on the morning of Wednesday, March 16, 2022 surrounded by those whom she cherished most in the world.
Kitty spent her life in Wilmington, having attended St. Elizabeth’s High School. While still in school, she met and later married the love of her life, Dr. John S. Piendak. In their 67 years together, the couple would see the world, raise three children and build a community of faith and giving around them. In addition to her family and friends, Kitty was most proud of her work as Chief X-Ray Technician at the former Delaware Hospital. If you look up medicine in the old Encyclopedia Britannica, the smiling face of Kitty would greet you.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Regina (McCorkle) Cusack and her sister, Regina Sipala.
Kitty is survived by her husband, Dr. John S. Piendak; her daughter, Elizabeth McGivney and husband, William; her son, John Piendak; her daughter, Melissa Percopo and husband, Leo; her honorary son, Joe Cann; her grandchildren, Brendan and wife, Sara, Brigid and Liam McGivney, Vincent and Katarina Percopo, Monica Piendak Manngard; as well as her favorite friend and caretaker, Kia.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, March 21 from 5:00 – 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville on Tuesday, March 22 at 10:30AM, immediately followed by interment in the parish cemetery.
