Edna F. Powalski 

Age 83 of Wilmington, DE passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February, 16, 2016. Edna grew up in the Polish community around St. Hedwig Church. She attended St. Hedwig Elementary School and was a graduate of Wilmington High School, Class of 1950.

She was dedicated and had a devotion to the Immaculate Conception, Blessed Mary Virgin Mother of Jesus and was a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality, dedicated to the Blessed Mother. She worked as a legal secretary for 10 years, raised 4 children as a “stay home mom” and later worked for 10 years as a part time secretary for Local #626 in the Apprenticeship Program. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports and spent many hours at St. Matthew YAC sport programs and banquets.

Edna is survived by her husband, Joseph J. Powalski, of 59 years and was married in St. Hedwig Church on April 7, 1956. She is also survived by her daughters; Diane Bourdon and husband Alex and Barbara Gillis and husband Jeff, son; Joseph J. Powalski and wife Carla, grandchildren; Brian, Lauren, Joseph, Eric, Rachel, Jeffrey and Taylor and many loving nieces and nephews, dear friends, beloved club girls and neighbors. She was predeceased by her daughter, Eileen Powalski, her sister; Mary Swierczewski; brothers, Joseph Kowalski and Thomas Kowalski and her step-father, Pete Duricek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am in St. Matthew Church, Woodcrest, Wilmington, DE on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. Visitation for Edna will be held in church starting at 10 am.
