Edwina born December 4, 1924 died on Monday, January 11, 2016 at the age 91 with her loving husband of 66 years by her side. Born in Wilmington, DE to the late Anthony and Sophia Jezyk, she attended St. Hedwig and St. Elizabeth Schools and later attended Wilmington High School. She was employed, during WWII, as a welder for Dravo, building landing crafts. She later became a seamstress for Norm Brothers making sails. Edwina then worked in the engineering photo duplication department at the Louviers Site of DuPont. In their later years, she and Larry moved to Lewes, DE to care for their family business full time, that they started back in 1962.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lawrence J. Lewandowski, Jr. of Lewes, DE; sons, Dr. Lawrence (Janice) of Wilmington, DE, Thomas (Lisa) of Middletown, DE, Timothy (Jayne) of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Corrine, Camille and Dylan; her favorite great grandson, Jonathan; her younger sister, Doloris Rosiak and brother, Leonard Jezyk Sr.
She was an avid Civil War buff and gardener. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and crocheting. Traveling was also something she and her husband enjoyed together, visiting Soviet Blocked Countries such as Poland, in her early years and eventually seeing most of Western Europe. In her later travels, she visited Costa Rica where she in her mid 70’s went sail fishing, hiking mountain trails and forging rivers. Her favorite destination of all was Tahiti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 11 am in St. Hedwig Church, Linden and S. Harrison Streets, Wilmington, DE. Burial will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery. Visitation for Edwina will be held in St. Hedwig Church starting at 10 am.
She was a member of St. Hedwig, St. Elizabeth, St. Matthew and finally Mary, Mother of Peace Church in Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Mary, Mother of Peace Church, c/o St. Michael the Archangel, 202 Edward Street, Georgetown, DE 19947.
