Elizabeth "Betty" Leonard Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Truszkowski Leonard, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 22, 2021. Born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1934, she was the eldest daughter of the late Edward and Agnes (Ksiazek) Truszkowski. A devout Catholic, Betty was a long-time parishioner of St. Hedwig’s Roman Catholic Church in Wilmington, Delaware.

Upon graduating Wilmington High School in 1953, Betty worked as a licensed insurance agent for Charles B. Allen, who treated her like family. The company later merged to form Allen and Sheryll where Betty pioneered successfully and worked for them for a combination of 42 years. While in the insurance industry, Betty met her husband, Frederick Leonard. Betty was a devoted wife to Fred until his death in 2017.

Betty was a fun loving, supportive sister, wife, aunt, and friend who loved nothing more than spending time with her family whether it be a sporting event, school function, a day at the beach, or a casual Sunday dinner. Betty was always there to help out and to participate in card games, dominos, puzzles, casual conversations, reminiscing, and lots of laughter. She thoroughly enjoyed her television and various old movies and game shows while eating candy! Her love for her family and friends was momentous. Her nieces, nephews, and their children were very special to her. She always enjoyed being part of their lives and watching them grow.

In her younger years, Betty loved worldwide travel with friends and family. She enjoyed her trips to the beach where her father could fish and she could enjoy sunning with her sisters, nieces and nephews. A fan of slot machines, Betty also enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City. She was an avid bowler and played on several teams. She lived a beautiful full life.

In addition to her parents and husband, Elizabeth is also preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Truszkowski, his wife Elsie, and brother-in-law, Joseph L. Rhodes, Jr. She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy (Robert) DiDonato, Helena (Richard) Maxwell, Maggie (Joseph) Greloch, Agnes Rhodes; nieces: Lisa (Dan), Kim; nephews: Kevin (Tiia), Rob (Teresa), Mark (Maria), Dave, Jason (Jennifer), and Jeff (Tyler); grandnieces: Courtney, Marissa, Ava; Grandnephews: Derek, Zach, Evan, Taylor, Austin, Nick, Tommy, Mark, Caleb, Dallas; stepchildren: Janice (Rick) Myrick, Frederick Leonard, and Douglas Leonard; step grandchildren:  Curtis W. (Caitlin Rose) Myrick and Erica (Anthony) Raucci; and step great-grandchildren: Kepler and Nellia Raucci.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, November 16 from 10:00-11:00AM, immediately followed by a Catholic funeral service.  Interment will be held privately, and Betty will join Fred at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
