Eugene T. Duszak
Age 86, passed away peacefully on October 1st, 2012. A first-generation Polish American, Gene was born in the Browntown neighborhood of Wilmington on April 11, 1926. He was the son of Konstanty and Maryanna (Walerta) Duszak and the youngest of eight children. Gene graduated from Brown Vocational High School, then served in the U.S. Army, 557 Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. After serving his country, he married Lucille F. Swierczewska, his wife of 64 years.
Gene spent his working years as a TV mechanic, welding supply salesman and maintenance mechanic at Sanford School.
He was an active lifelong member of St. Hedwig Church, the Polish Library Association and VFW Post 3257, Gene’s faith and the people he encountered were always a driving force in his life. He enjoyed gardening, playing bocce ball and spending time with his grandchildren. A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, he leaves enduring feelings of love for his entire family.
He is survived by his wife and four children: Martin Duszak and his wife, Sandra, Thomas Duszak, Marie Pierse and her husband, Terry, and Anthony Duszak and his wife, Andrea. He is also survived by his brother, Edward Duszak and nine grandchildren: Lisa Novak and her husband, David, David Duszak and his wife, Jennifer, Andrew Duszak, Daniel Pierse, Barbara Duszak, Alexandra Duszak, Joseph Duszak, Margaret Pierse and Emily Duszak. Gene is predeceased by his grandson Brian Pierse and six brothers and sisters.
Additionally, the Duszak family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the Kentmere Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their care of Gene over the past two years.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10 am in St. Hedwig Church, Linden & S. Harrison Sts. Wilmington, DE on Saturday, October, 6, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 am. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Gene’s memory to St. Hedwig Church, Twin Spires Campaign, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington, DE 19805
