Hedwig Bilaszewski Obituary

Hedwig Bilaszewski, age 91 of John’s Creek, GA, and formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

She was born in Poland and worked as a kindergarten teacher after graduating high school.  She came to the United States in 1949, shortly after marrying Bronislaw Bilaszewski. With her family settling in Wilmington, Hedwig worked for National Vulcanized Fiber for 25 years.

Hedwig and her family were devout parishioners of St. Hedwig’s Church and had a deep appreciation for their Polish heritage. She and her family enjoyed partaking in the various Polish traditions, especially around the holidays.

She enjoyed entertaining family and friends serving wonderful meals and extending gracious hospitality to all. She enjoyed cooking Polish foods, baking delicious bread, and making preserves from the berries that were home grown in their garden. Hedwig had an appreciation for nature and animals, and would frequently feed the squirrels from the woods that would back up to their home. She enjoyed sewing and was quite talented. Hedwig and her husband were very talented dancers – polkas, tangos and waltzes – they were amazing to watch.

Hedwig is survived by her daughter, Irene Nowicki and her husband, Jim; her grandchildren, Stephanie Nowicki, Jacqueline Holland, Andrew Nowicki; and her great-grandson, James Holland.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Helen Obrycki; her beloved husband, Bronislaw; and her brother, John Obrycki.

Services for Hedwig will be held privately with her family.
