Henry E. Deptula
Age 87, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on January 30, 2013. Henry was born in Wilmington on February 6, 1925. He attended St. Hedwig’s Grade School and Brown Vocational School where he trained as a welder and subsequently worked at the Dravo Wilmington Shipyard before serving in the US Navy.
Henry served in the US Navy during World War II, primarily in The Pacific Theater and particularly in The Philippine Liberation. His active duty was on the destroyer, USS Remey (DD 688).
After his military service, a significant part of his life evolved around owning and operating a local tavern in Hedgeville, Stanley’s Café, with his wife Theresa. They developed a very loyal customer base which coincidentally evolved into some of their most dear and cherished friendships.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Theresa Deptula; his children, Paul Deptula (Connie) of New Castle and Michael Deptula of Wilmington; a grandson, Kristofer Deptula of New Castle; sister, Dolores Kolakowski (Thomas) of Clayton DE; brothers, Stanley Deptula (Stella) of Wilmington DE and Edward Deptula (Fran) of Longneck DE; and numerous nieces and nephews that loved their Uncle Henry.
A viewing will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at John F. Yasik Funeral Home, 607 S. Harrison Street, Wilmington, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Hedwig Church, Linden and S. Harrison Streets, Wilmington DE. Burial will immediately follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington DE.
