Irene (Spinden) Rutkowski

Irene Rutkowski, age 82, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 20, 2021.

She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who enjoyed the beach and loved her Philadelphia Eagles.

She is survived by her son, Alfred Rutkowski, Jr; daughters, Joanne (Andy) Berni, Deborah (Tom) Diamond and Victoria (John) Lloyd; her grandchildren, Alfred III, Andrew, Joseph, Matthew, Abby, Kayla, John, Megan and Thomas; her great-grandson, Nathaniel; her brother, Charles Spinden; her sister, Joyce Veltre; her sister-in-law, Terry Starr (Harvey); her brother-in-law, William Lee; and her nieces, nephews, and numerous other family and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Alfred Rutkowski, Sr.; her parents, Roy and Mary (Korolog) Spinden; her sister, Helen Evans; and her sister-in-law, Carolyn Rutkowski.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 9:30am – 11am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30am at St. Hedwig Church, 408 S. Harrison Street, Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will be held in Cathedral Cemetery.
