of Woodcrest and formerly of Windemere, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 in Parkview Nursing Home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Irene was born on December 27, 1933 to the late Joseph & Edna (Marden) Harris in Wilmington, DE.
A graduate of P.S. DuPont HS, class of 1951, Irene worked as a secretary for several prominent developers and contractors. She was a former member and Local Chapter President of the National Women in Construction. A loving, loyal, generous, and religious person, she enjoyed music, cross-stitch, gardening, going to the Scottish games and other events with her sisters. Irene had a beautiful singing voice which was discovered at an early age as a member of the Salvation Army. She was a member of the church choir at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church where she also taught Bible class.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Clifton O. Wallace and her brother, Carl R. Harris. She is survived by her husband of 17 years, John M. (Jack) Skibicki; his children, Mark (Karen), Steve (Chris), David (Suzanne), Susan Wilson (Jeff), John (Donna) all of Wilmington, DE and Larry of FL; her step-children, Donald Wallace (Sandra) and Dhea Holland (Rich); her siblings, Josephine “Jo” Ballew of Woodland Hills, CA, Bernice Harris, Joseph M. Harris, Jr. of San Antonio, TX, Sallie Swales (Harry) and Rhoda Harris. She also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday morning, January 24, 2013 in St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Road, Stanton, DE at 11:00 am. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in church. Internment will follow in Gracelawn Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
