Louis Twardowski Obituary

Surrounded by his family, Louis F. Twardowski passed away peacefully on May 8, 2020 just two weeks short of his ninety-ninth birthday. Born in Philadelphia to the late John and Juliana Czubata Twardowski, Louis was raised on the East Side of Wilmington where he attended Brown Vocational High School. He proudly served his country during World War II by enlisting in the Army Air Corps. Louis was a flight mechanic and flew dangerous refueling missions in Burma, India, and China which earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross.

While on a three day pass, Louis married the love of his life, Victoria Cislo. Their love story lasted over seventy-six years. Until his retirement, Louis owned and operated Bear Alignment Center in Wilmington. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, vegetable gardening and golfing. He played Bridge and Pinochle at the Claymore and Mid-county Senior Centers.

Louis delighted in the births of his grandchildren, Nathan (Kristen) Pochomis, Natalie (Jim) Kozlowski and David (Jamie) Twardowski and his great-grandchildren: Evan, Emily, Eric and Eliana Pochomis and Connor and Cassidy Twardowski.

Louis was predeceased by his brother Michael and his sisters Catherine, Stella, Mary, Rose, and Anne. He was extremely saddened by the death of his eldest daughter, Cathleen Earl and his son-in-law, Edward Pochomis.

He is survived by his loving wife, Victoria; his son Skip (Henry) Twardowski and his wife Beth; and his daughter Cynthia Pochomis. He also has a younger brother, Francis Twardowski.

Louis had a deep faith in God and was a proud member of St. Elizabeth Parish for many years.

The family would like to thank the members of the Veterans Administration Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care they provided for Louis at the end of his life.

Due to the current restrictions, the burial will be private. A memorial celebration of his life will be planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Victoria requests donations to St. Elizabeth Parish, 809 S. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.
