Mary V. Markowitz
Mary V. Markowitz passed away on May 25, 2015. She was born in Jersey City, NJ on October 8, 1928.
She married Edward Markowitz on March 24, 1951 and became a devoted Navy wife, living in New Jersey, Florida, Rhode Island, and Tennessee before moving to New Castle, Delaware in 1968.
When her husband became ill, she began working outside the home as a supervisor at Wilmington Trust for many years. After retirement, she continued to work part-time as a bus aide for the Colonial School District until the age of 80.
Her greatest joys in life were being a Mom, Grandma, and Gigi; her family meant everything to her. She also enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas and game shows, shopping, and spending time at Delaware Park.
Mary was fiercely independent, insisting on mowing her lawn, driving her own car, and even shoveling her driveway during the winter. She led a simple and humble life and was incredibly selfless, devoting her entire life to caring for others and never asking for anything in return. She was an angel with a beautiful smile, who was loved by so many and who will be deeply missed.
She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1987. She is survived by her three children; Edward Markowitz of Pueblo, CO, Laurie Czajkowski (Michael) of Wilmington, DE, and Diane Bates-Coffman (Mark) of Newark, DE. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Lindsay Czajkowski Morrison, Mark Czajkowski, Max Markowitz, Lauren Bates, Jessica Bates, and Alexandra Coffman, great-grandson, Will Morrison, sister Rosemarie Olsen, nephew William Olsen, brother John Hengstler (Ronnie), sister-in-law Nancy Catanzaro (Phil), and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 1980, at 12 noon. Visitation will begin at 11AM. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N DuPont Hwy, New Castle, DE.
