Monica Ann Quigley Farrell, The Biggest Little Badass, The Fightin’ Southpaw from the Poconos a.k.a. Ms. BAMF, was welcomed into heaven on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Monica was born with a fire in her soul and her heart on her sleeve. Destined for greatness and compassionate beyond measure, Monica was always someone you could count on for a kind word, a supportive smile, the warmest of hugs, good-natured mischief, 80’s music, and a cold beer. She had an uncanny gift of knowing exactly which of those you needed, and in which order you needed them.
She attended and graduated from Lansdale Catholic High School where she met and fell in love with her husband and soulmate, Joe. Following Monica’s graduation from Allentown College of St. Francis DeSales (now DeSales University), they married in 1991 and moved to Wilmington, Delaware where Monica began her incredible and storied career with the Delaware Division of Services for Children, Youth, and their Families, and the Division of Family Services.
For over 25 years, Monica touched the lives of hundreds of children and families and never left a single one of them behind. She was a fearless investigator, and a kind, empathetic liaison. Her tireless efforts to support Delaware families earned her the Melson-Arsht Inn of Courts and DeSales University Distinguished Alumni Awards.
Upon her retirement, Monica and Joe fulfilled their desire to return to Pennsylvania and lovingly created a new home in Lehighton. Her presence is felt throughout their home in the carefully curated knick-knacks: full of Christmas spirit year-round, surrounded by signs of positivity with quotes by A.A. Milne, Walt Disney, and Dorothy Gale, and a couch so comfortable, you would have to fight their sweet dogs Bogart, Isabelle, and Maggie Mae for a seat.
She passed away surrounded by the beauty and warmth of the Pocono Mountains.
Monica is preceded in death by her Father Francis Quigley, her sister Mary Beth Quigley Poole, and her Uncles Francis and John Hedden. Her spirit lives on in the hearts and lives of all she touched and is survived by her husband Joseph W. Farrell, Jr., her son Joseph W. Farrell III, her daughter Lauren Jumps (Michael), her grandson Owen C. Jumps, Mother Alberta Maris (George), her brother Sean Quigley (Lauren), and her sister Shannon Boczjuk (Peter). She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, June 7 from 10:00 – 11:00AM, followed by a Catholic funeral service. Interment will be held privately.
