Nancy C. Knotts

    Age 83, of Hockessin, DE died suddenly but peacefully on January 4, 2015 in Deming, NM while retuning home from a family visit in AZ. Cause of death was heart failure.

  She was born in Wilmington, DE on May 9, 1931, the second child of E. Russell and Helen Yost Jones. Nancy was a member of P.S. du Pont High School Class of 1949 where she met her future husband, Philip L. Knotts. After she graduated from the University of Delaware in 1953, they entered into a marriage that lasted more than sixty-one years. During that time, she worked as a substitute school teacher in CA, VA and DE, and as a school bus driver for Tower Hill School. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a wonderful homemaker and caregiver to her family who will dearly miss her.

  In addition to her parents she, was predeceased by her brother, Richard Jones, of Denver, CO and a grandson, Corey Knotts, of Gulf Breeze, FL. Along with her husband, she is survived by her four sons, Lawrence Knotts (Wendy) of Cumming, GA, Robert Knotts (Patricia) of Davie, FL, Daniel Knotts and friend Lisa D’Ascenzo of Chadds Ford, PA, and John Knotts (Marla) of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She is also survived by a brother, Theodore Y. Jones of Sedona, AZ as well as former daughters-in-law Ann Knotts of Burke, VA, Margaret Thomas of Chadds Ford, PA and Sheri Knotts of Gulf Breeze, FL.

   Funeral services will be held at Hockessin United Methodist Church, 7250 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE, 19707, at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015. Friends may visit with the family from 7p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE, 19808. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD.

  In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 400 North Orange St. Wilmington, DE 19801 or the Delaware SPCA, 455 Stanton Christiana Rd., Newark, DE, 19713.
