Nicholas “Nicky” Cerkownuk

 Nicky was born on December 2, 1928 and died peacefully with his wife and family by his side on Sunday, August 18, 2013. Nicky was the only son of the late Tanas and Rosalia Cerkownuk. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Nale, Sophie Stajkowski, Ann Chalus and Helen Brown.

Nicky proudly served his country in the Army Signal Corp. from 1950-1952 and was stationed in Europe. He went to work for DuPont Chamberworks afterwards and retired in 1987 after 28 years of service. Nicky and his dearly loved wife, Ruth Ellen (Bogert) enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and Europe, hosting friends and family at their home and enjoying their retirement years.

In addition to his wife, Ruth Ellen, Nicky is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Divine Liturgy will be offered on Friday, August 23, 1013, at 11:00 am, in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Miller and Lea Boulavard, Wilmington, DE.  Burial will follow in Gracelawn Cemetery. Visitation for Nicky will be held in Church on Friday starting at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made  to: St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 801 Lea Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19803 or to Delaware Hospice Inc., 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803 .
