Paul "Gus" David Sargent III

Paul David “Gus” Sargent III, age 14, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, November 13, 2023.  He joins his beloved brother, CJ, in Heaven with the Lord.

Gus was currently an 8th grade student at St. Edmond’s Academy in Wilmington, DE after spending several years at St. Anthony of Padua Grade School.  Gus was an excellent student, particularly interested in math and science.  In addition to his studies, Gus was a physical fitness enthusiast, dedicated to a regimented program of weightlifting, exercise, and running.  Gus also participated in and enjoyed several sports.  He ran cross country for St. Edmonds this past fall and quickly emerged as a team leader.  He swam locally for 9 consecutive summers for River Road Swim Club, developing everlasting bonds with teammates of all ages.  Gus also took great pride in being a wrestler and was excited to begin his 5th season with the Brandywine Bulldogs Wrestling Club.  Gus recently took the entrance exam for Salesianum High School.  He was looking forward to becoming a Salesian Gentleman, class of 2028, like his father and grandfather.

Gus was a member of Boy Scout Troop 33 for almost 8 years.  He loved nature and the outdoors, fervently participating in monthly camping trips.  Gus was also an avid and skilled fisherman who cherished every moment he spent fishing with his father and brother Nick, especially during their many trips to Maine.  Gus loved animals and had a fondness for reptiles; he may have even been bitten by a snake once or twice!  He adored his leopard gecko, Cheetah and his family’s Greyhound, Dee Dee.

Guided by his strong faith in God, Gus was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin.  He was a loyal friend who always saw the goodness in others.  Gus was simply the family member and friend that everyone wishes to have in their lives.

Gus will forever remain in the hearts of his parents, Paul D., Jr. and Stephanie (Zgleszewski) Sargent; his siblings, Nicholas Paul, Ella Marijane and Cathryn Anne; his grandparents, Stanley and Janice Zgleszewski, and Betty Jane Sargent; his aunts, Anne Marie Sargent and Karen Bauer; his uncle, Rich Bauer; his dear cousins, Hal, Caroline and Stanley Bauer.  They will all miss his strong and powerful hugs which always made them feel special and loved.

In addition to his brother CJ, Gus was predeceased by his beloved grandfather, Paul D. Sargent, Sr.

The visitation and Mass for Gus will be held privately at St. Anthony of Padua Church.
