Sigmund James Czajkowski

“Ziggy”

 

Age 80, a lifelong resident of Wilmington passed away at home on February 14, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 29, 1932 in Wilmington Delaware, Ziggy was the youngest child of the late Michael and Cecilia Czajkowski’s seven children.

Ziggy was a graduate of Wilmington High School and veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served his country as an air traffic controller during the Korean War. It was shortly after his discharge from the service that his life was changed forever when met the love of his life Jane (Hummel) Czajkowski. They were married on June 28, 1958 and would go on to spend 54 loving years together raising their four beautiful children.

Ziggy was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier retiring in 1990 after more than 35 years of dedicated service. He also spent many of those working years as a part-time driver for the Air Port Shuttle service that ran from Wilmington to Philadelphia. During his retirement he enjoyed gardening, painting and trips to Atlantic City, NJ with Jane.

In addition to his parents, Ziggy was preceded in death by his six siblings, Josephine, Henry, Marie, Ted, Leon and Betty.

He is survived by his adoring wife, Jane (Hummel) Czajkowski; his four children, Barbara Kingshill (Pete), Jim Czajkowski (Robin), Rick Czajkowski (Brenda) and Lisa Starling (Matt). He is also survived by “Pop-Pop’s” pride and joy, his nine grandchildren, Ryan Kingshill, Brooke and Andrew Czajkowski, Shana and Samantha Czajkowski, Matthew, Amanda, Jessica and Steven Starling as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family would also like to express their sincere heartfelt thanks to Nurse Wendy for her compassionate care and the guidance she provided to our family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am in Saint Mary Magdalen Church, Concord Pike & Sharpley Rd., where friends and family may call on Friday, February 22, 2013 for Mass.  Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery where burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in memory of Sigmund Czajkowski, to:  Saint Mary Magdalen Church, 9 Sharpley Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
