Sophie J. (Wolos) Zabielski, 87, of Wilmington, DE peacefully passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015.

Zonie was born in Wilmington on July 13, 1927, daughter of the late John and Salomea (Orybkiewicz) Wolos.  She and her husband owned and operated Zonie’s Inn on Maryland Avenue from 1955-1963.  She then worked for Wilmington Finishing Company before joining Christiana Care (formerly the Wilmington Medical Center), from which she retired in 1991.  Zonie was a member of St. Hedwig’s Parish and the Claymore Senior Center Women’s Club.  She loved to dance the Polka and was a member of the St. Hedwig’s Alley Cats.  She enjoyed summers at her home in Indian Landing, was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed reading.

Her husband, Edmund R. Zabielski, passed away in 1985.

Zonie is survived by her daughter, Patti Barnick and her husband, Pete; her granddaughters, Jamie Lynn Lindsay and her husband, Marc and Dana Lee Graver and her husband, Dan; her great grandchildren, Cecilia and Finnegan Lindsay, and Nate and Olivia Graver; and her nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Walter, Stanley and Edward Wolos; and her sisters, Helen Jurkowski and Wanda Reimer.

The family would like to thank the staff of Somerford Place and Seasons Hospice for the loving care given to Sophie.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Avenue, Wilmington on Tuesday, April 21 from 8:30-10:00AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Hedwig’s Church, Linden and S. Harrison Streets, Wilmington at 10:30AM.  Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.
