Age 90, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, in the St. Francis Hospital.
Duke graduated from the University of Delaware in 1951. He was a mechanical engineer and worked at the DuPont Edgemore Plant. He retired in 1985. Duke served in WWII as a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp. He was with the 454 Bombardier Group, 736 Bombardier Squad of the 15th Air Force-Italy. He was a B-24 Pilot. He was a life long member of St.Hedwig Parish where he donated much of his time. He was a past member of parish council and he helped to establish the RCIA program at St. Hedwig Church. Duke was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Polish Kitchen. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, John Paul II Council #7608.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion (Rutkowski) Witkowski; his son, Stanley Witkowski, Jr. and 10 siblings. He is survived by his son, Michael (Jean) Witkowski; 2 daughters, Bernice (Ed) O’Brien and Anne Marie Witkowski, with whom he lived; 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, Andrew, Christopher and Brian; 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Witkowski and sisters, Jeanette Steen and Eleanore Walker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 22, 2013 in St. Hedwig Church, Linden and S. Harrison Streets.,Wilmington, DE at 11 am. Visitation for Duke will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the John F. Yasik Funeral Home, 607 S. Harrison Street, Wilmington, DE from 5-7 pm and on Monday, July 22, 2013 in St. Hedwig Church, from 10-10:50 am. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
