Children & Grief

According to Alan Wolfelt, "When someone loved dies, children grieve. The most important factor in how children react to the death is the response of the adults who influence their lives. Caring adults - whether they are parents, relatives, or friends - can help children during this tragic time. Handled with warmth and understanding, a child's early experiences with death can be opportunities to learn about life and living as well as death and dying" (Wolfelt, 1991, p.6).

Here, at John F. Yasik Funeral Services, we are convinced of that fact. That is why we have dedicated an entire section of our website to the subject of Children & Grief. We want to assist you in helping your children cope with death in a healthy fashion. The way that a child experiences death will greatly influence his view of life and death as an adult.

As you read through this section of the website, you will find information about "Let’s Talk About The Funeral"©, explaining death to children of all ages, answers to some frequently asked questions, 10 ways to help children who are grieving, information concerning our various "Grief Talk"© programs, and helpful links to websites that can give you additional assistance as you help your children cope with the death they have experienced.
